All I want to do is Paint!
2 years have passed since my last post and so much has happened... My studio moved again,  that's approximately 5/6 studio changes in 10 years. We also moved into an apartment, & a new home....& we moved my daughter, son and bought a camp...Lots of changes....I am still dealing with items we had in storage for 5 years!
I have been in "Transition"....Physically & Emotionally, all of which affects an artists work, causing rapid fluctuations in style and quality. Unsettling to say the least. Some paintings were reworked, I like to say fine tuned, or restated (thanks Susan!) They weren't quite what I wanted. And this summer I traveled to a "boot camp" for artists in Colorado given by Kim English to fine tune my skills painting figures rapidly and landscapes "en plein air" then a portrait work shop in New Orleans given by Susan Hotard to practice painting live models quickly. When you have painted for as long as I have it is often difficult to hear something "new" but a different way of phrasing can often lead to a change in the processing of the information, hopefully creating tiny shifts.
AND, sometimes it is good to push ourselves, so I have even given a couple of speeches, and interviews.....too long winded, I am sure! ...Tiny shifts....subtle movements.....

2012 Summer Classes

Summer Classes have started at the ASO Building on Travis and Harding in room 212.  Classes are available for ages 6 -96 and  I prefer small groups so you get a lot of personal attention. Call, text or email me to find out which classes have openings. Class sizes are limited but private classes are available occasionally depending on my health and my painting/exhibitions schedule.

Whew! It's been awhile since I added anything to this page, several moves, some of them "major" and several years of illness haven't helped but now things are looking up. We are settling in our new house in Lafayette and
the doctor's think they have figured out what is wrong with me so I am starting to feel better!

Watch for some new postings....all copyrights belong to me so please don't download my paintings.....

Summer 2010

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for being  patient with me this summer. I closed my New Iberia studio this summer to concentrate on painting and exhibits. to see my latest exhibition contact Peggy Domingue at Darnall, Sikes, Gardes & Frederick. The CPA Firm is located in the new IBERIABANK building on the corner of Kaliste Saloom and Camelia Blvd in Lafayette, LA you can view the information online at this link www.dsfcpas.com just click on the"Art for All Seasons" then click on my name, Gwen Voorhies for the artists statement.

The show will be up from July until the end of September so go by and take a look. I  have about 40 landscapes and still lifes....you can see some of them on my facebook page.

I  have included some of the photos from the Opelousas Fiddlemania project I worked on this spring and as you can see Mr. Hadley Castile and his grand daughter Sarah Jayde were kind enough to pose with me for the photo! The fiddles are currently on display I believe until the end of August and the project gave me a chance to start working on my  block prints which were published in the 2010 Communtiy Foundation  of Acadiana Annual report. I was chosen as the featured artist! You can view the annual report on their web site www.cfacadiana.org

Several people have asked about the summer and fall schedule...I am only teaching private lessons this summer. This fall I will teach a few workshops and a class for children and one for adults.I will let you know when the dates and times are confirmed. As you can see it has been a busy year for me and i needed to slow down a bit! Send me an email if you have any questions!
